Cooling water treatment systems supplied to Urenco use ion exchange resins and an ultraviolet lamp unit to control microbiological growth

Urenco, the uranium enrichment specialists, have awarded a contract to High Wycombe based Vivendi Water Systems, for the supply of cooling water treatment equipment at their new facility in the North West of the UK The cooling circuit uses water, which, like most of that used in nuclear applications, is of a very high purity

The cooling circuit is originally filled with de-ionised water and this is continuously circulated through a "polishing" unit to remove any trace contaminants, which may have been picked up in the system.

The Vivendi Water Systems equipment uses mixed-bed ion exchange cylinders charged with nuclear grade ion exchange resins - one of the highest specification available - and an ultraviolet lamp unit to control microbiological growth.

Graeme Orr, Vivendi Water Systems Area Sales Manager commented.

"We have always had a good relationship with Urenco, and have previously supplied softeners and laboratory water purifiers to them.

In this case we were able to draw on our experience of pharmaceutical water system design to provide an ultra-clean piping system which will maintain water quality whilst allowing for extension in the next phase of construction".

Vivendi Water Systems had to meet a very tight schedule to ensure that there were no delays to the building.

Vivendi Water Systems is a leading environmental engineering specialist in water supply, sewerage technology, wastewater treatment, remediation of contaminated soil and groundwater, covering the entire water life cycle.
