Getting toned up
One of the huge range of fine chemical products manufactured by Avecia at their Grangemouth site is a new chemically produced toner for use in copiers and printers
Their Utilities Vendor Database (UVDB), originally established in 1996, is now used by all the major UK Utilities Companies to source suppliers and contractors in the power, water, telecoms and gas sectors.
The Verify scheme is focussed on SHEQ assessments and is used by the Utilities to qualify their supply chain through a standard assessment of suppliers management systems and site performance.
Under the Verify scheme, the company is awarded a certificate which evaluates scores for both the management system and on-site performance under three headings: Health and Safety, Environment and Quality.
The Elga Process Water Management System scored 87% for Health and Safety, 67% for Environment and 92% for Quality, while their site performance scored 98%, 91% and a massive 100% in the same categories, but Managing Director, Martyn Fisher, is far from complacent.
"Safety, Health, Environment and Quality are of paramount importance to our clients in the Utilities Sector, and certification by Verify is a measure of our competence within this field," he says, "The scheme is a recognised external assessment and we are very proud to have achieved certification in the highest B2 category.
Verify assigns an assessor who will visit us annually to update the assessment and issue a new certificate so that both we and our clients can compare year on year improvements".
The Elga Process Water principal market in the Utilities Sector is high purity water for Power Generation, but Martyn Fisher is confident that certification will open up many new business opportunities.
