Three in one motor tester saves time and
money
Ideal for both the electric motor repair shop or on the production line, the new 'Motatest' from Whitelegg combines the three main tests that previously would be carried out by individual instruments

Electric motor problems are most likely to arise from bearing failures, detectable by vibration - insulation deterioration follows as a close second cause: how do you investigate insulation problems?
Electric motor predictive maintenance: a US view
'Predictive Maintenance' are the new "buzz" words being uttered by maintenance engineers and plant operators in many industrial, commercial and marine facilities
The 12V, battery powered, Motatest will surge test windings to identify inductance problems, measure their resistance to confirm balance and flash test the windings to identify earth faults.
This allows the engineer to make the fundamental decision about a motor of whether to overhaul or rewind.
When on the production line the Motatest ability to compare against preset values and tolerances makes is ideal for pass/fail verification by non-skilled operatives.
The standard 'L' Model offers the ability to carry out automatically a surge test, resistance test, open circuit test and short circuit test.
Results are compared against pre-installed limits and a pass or fail decision given on the condition of the winding.
These results can then be downloaded via an RS232 port to computer for storage.
These tests can also be carried out manually for more detailed investigative work.
The resistance test is accurate to milli-ohms as the Motatest can circulate up to 1.4 amps in the test circuit.
Additionally the higher specification 'XL' Model offers a 4000V-dc power source that can automatically carry out polarisation index tests or for speed a shortened one-minute DAR test.
It can flash test at any pre-selected voltage and time duration automatically and display the resultant leakage current or insulation resistance.
The XL Model also comes with probes and software to check induction, neutral point, Hall effect rotary field and magnetic field strength and direction.
The 12V rechargeable battery gives a very long life even when carrying out repeated resistance tests.
With an entry price of GBP1920 and comprehensive features the Motatest is a unique and very versatile tool, ideal for any work place.
Whitelegg Machines Ltd have been supplying test equipment to the electric motor repair and production industry, world wide, for over 25 years.
