At the same time, Leiner wants to take advantage of the system's options in implementing its high demands on quality.
Selling its products exclusively to retailers, Leiner is America's largest store brand manufacturer of vitamins, minerals, and nutritional supplements, with a portfolio of more than 3,000 products.
The company also is the second largest US manufacturer of private label Over-the-Counter (OTC) pharmaceuticals.
PAS-X is one of the worldwide leading standard products for production management in pharmaceutical and biopharmaceutical manufacturing.
The installation at Leiner will focus on the implementation of FDA/cGMP compliant manufacturing and packaging processes with electronic batch recording and a weighing and dispensing module.
In addition, Leiner will use the PAS-X functions for warehouse management and material tracking.
"In particular, the high level of standardization which characterizes the PAS-X product was a crucial factor in our decision to choose Werum," William Griesbacher, Vice President West Operations at Leiner Health Products, explained.
"Within a short period of time we were able to perform a GAP analysis, because we used a running system to compare the features and capabilities provided by PAS-X with our specific requirements.
This approach allows us to produce highly reliable budget and project runtime estimates".
The Manufacturing Execution System will be installed as pilot system in Leiner's production site in Garden Grove south of Los Angeles, California.
Werum America, the US subsidiary of Germany-based Werum Software and Systems, will carry out the project.
Upon completion of the first installation, the system is scheduled for rollout at the three other Leiner manufacturing sites in the USA and Canada.
