Westermo Data Communications has announced the release of new compact industrial Ethernet FX/TX media converter that has the ability to report and pass forward linking faults

Westermo Data Communications, the UK's leading supplier of industrial Ethernet products, has announced the release of a new compact industrial Ethernet FX/TX media converter that has the ability to report and pass forward linking faults.

The DIN-rail mountable MCW-211 is designed to convert data between copper-based Ethernet 10/100 Base-TX and fibre-optic-based 100 Base-FX.

The FX side of the converter supports Far-End-Fault indication and Link Fault Forwarding, which means that any link fault found on either side of the media converter is forwarded to the other side.

The converter is also transparent for large frames (VLAN or QoS).

With an extended temperature range (-25 to +70C) supported as standard as well as galvanic isolation and enhanced surge/transient protection, the MCW-211 is designed to be used in the harshest environments.

The unit is easy to use and install due to the auto-negotiation of speed and duplex, auto-crossover and auto-polarity.

It is also possible to set the speed, duplex and flow control via DIP-switches.

The MCW-211 has a wide DC power input range with polarity protection and redundant power from dual sources.
