Westermo will stage a series of free-of-charge industrial data communications events focusing on GSM/GPRS, industrial Ethernet and wireless Ethernet

Westermo Data Communications, the UK's leading supplier of industrial Ethernet products, is to stage a series of free-of-charge industrial data communications events focusing on GSM/GPRS, industrial Ethernet and wireless Ethernet The one-day conferences at venues across the UK (see dates below) are aimed at OEMs, system integrators and end users of industrial data communications and will feature a series of technology and application presentations as well as hands on training and practical demonstrations

Three technical presentations given by industry experts from Elpro Technologies and Westermo will address the topics of GSM/GPRS, Industrial Ethernet and Wireless Ethernet individually.

The emphasis will be on explaining the technologies and describing suitable applications.

Running in parallel to the technical presentations will be hands on training sessions for the Westermo GSM/GPRS modems and serial to Ethernet converters.

Participants will specifically be given hands-on experience of setting IP addresses and establishing connections to serial devices over Ethernet and GPRS.

In addition to the presentations and training there will be live working demonstrations of remote PLC communications, Profibus connectivity, Ethernet timeserving, redundant-ring ethernet, radio telemetry and industrial modems.

The venues and dates are as follows.

* Tuesday 7th March - Cambridge, Moathouse Hotel.

* Thursday 16th March - Stoke, Britannia Stadium.

* Wednesday 22nd March - Dundee, Apex City Quay Hotel.

The Wireless Ethernet Presentation.

A discussion of the pros and cons of WIFI and low power radio for the transmission of Ethernet.

Many factors must be considered when using wireless technology including security, transmission range, bandwidth and regulations.

GSM and GPRS Presentation.

An explanation of how GSM and GPRS work, and practical explanation of how to access the services provided by the mobile network providers to gain the best performance, will be provided.

The pitfalls and advantages of using the different networks and what you need to know about SIMs, APNs etc will be described.

Ethernet Industrial Presentation.

We explore many aspects of industrial Ethernet, including environmental specifications, determinism, redundancy, SNMP network management and multicasting.

The technology behind redundant rings, real time Ethernet and the basics of timeserving will be explained.

Training: remote access using TCP/IP over Ethernet and GSM/GPRS.

Running alongside these presentations will be hands on training on our new GDW-11 GSM/GPRS modem and EDW-100 serial to Ethernet converter.

Participants will gain hands-on experience of setting IP addresses and establishing connections to serial devices over Ethernet and GPRS.
