Compact, portable IR spectrometer for
process use
A new concept in mid-infrared instrumentation - the 'pocket sized' InfraSpec VFA-IR Spectrometer - for plant, field, and laboratory use - provides spectral, quantitative, or qualitative data
A new "pocket-sized" (5 x 5 x 1.5 inches) infrared instrument - the InfraSpec VFA-IR Spectrometer - that enables users to easily obtain spectral, quantitative, or qualitative information on a wide variety of materials/samples wherever they occur - at the production line, in the field or in the laboratory - has been introduced by Wilks Enterprise The patented InfraSpec VFA-IR Spectrometer represents a new concept in mid-IR instrumentation which utilises a detector array with a linear variable filter This results in a compact, portable spectrometer that has a number of advantages over conventional infrared instruments such as the widely-used FT-IR Spectrometer

Deuterium Oxide,or heavy water, can easily be measured in the fractional to high percent concentration levels using a new 'pocket-sized' infrared instrument - the InfraSpec VFA-IR Spectrometer
These advantages include no optical path through air, no moving parts, light weight (under 5 lbs), portable, rugged, and low cost.
The InfraSpec VFA-IR Spectrometer will supplement FT-IR capability in plant or field locations where it is not feasible or economical to use such instruments.
A simplified PC interface allows for quantitative or qualitative analyses on a wide variety of samples by individuals with little or no technical knowledge of infrared instrumentation.
The InfraSpec VFA-IR Spectrometer gathers spectral data like an FT-IR Spectrometer; however, much of the software programme has been geared towards repetitive process analysis applications.
Application areas include food analysis, material verification, fuel related analysis, environmental testing and polymer measurements.
Several specific applications within these market segments include alcohol in beverages, trans-fatty acid in oils, percent biodiesel in diesel fuel, water in solvents, measuring a barrier layer such as nylon in a multiplayer polymer film, and verifying incoming materials at a chemical or pharmaceutical plant.
