Heavy water measurement for nuclear
reactors
Deuterium Oxide,or heavy water, can easily be measured in the fractional to high percent concentration levels using a new 'pocket-sized' infrared instrument - the InfraSpec VFA-IR Spectrometer
Deuterium Oxide (D2O) or heavy water can easily be measured in the fractional to high percent concentration levels using a new 'pocket-sised' (5 x 5 x 1.5inches) infrared (IR) instrument - the InfraSpec VFA-IR Spectrometer - from Wilks Enterprise Deuterium Oxide is used as a moderator in pressurised heavy water nuclear reactors

Wilks Enterprise has introduced a portable mid-IR analyser for measuring the biodiesel blend ratio in diesel fuel
Since the water transfers the heat energy from the D2O to the steam turbine, it is important to measure the amount of D2O in water to determine if there are any leaks between the water loop and the D2O loop.
This is easily accomplished using either an ATR or a transmission version of the InfraSpec VFA-IR Spectrometer.
Concentration levels as low as 0.01% can be measured.
The InfraSpec VFA-IR Spectrometer represents a new concept in mid-IR instrumentation which utilises a detector array with linear variable filter.
This results in a compact, portable spectrometer that has a number of advantages over conventional infrared instruments such as the widely-used FT-IR Spectrometer.
These advantages include no optical path through air, no moving parts, light weight (under 5 lbs), portable (battery operated), rugged, and low cost.
The InfraSpec VFA-IR Spectrometer is ideal for use in plant or field locations where it is not feasible or economical to use FT-IR instruments.
