Measuring biofuel ratio in Gasoline and Diesel
Wilks Enterprise has just published an application note describing the methods for measurement of the biofuels blend ratio in gasoline and diesel and discusses the trend toward alternate fuels
Many countries have developed or are developing biofuels programmes.
Since tax incentives and government regulations are often based on % biofuel, it is important to have an accurate measurement system.
The InfraCal Filtometer is rugged, compact, portable and easy to use for non technical personnel.
It gives a direct readout in % biodiesel or % ethanol allowing the user the capability to measure the blend ratio on site at a manufacturing or distribution facility in less than a minute.
The InfraCal Filtometer is a fixed filter infrared analyser that, unlike an FTIR spectrometer, has no moving parts and an insignificant optical air path.
This makes it portable, rugged and suitable for use in a field environment.
It weighs less than 5 lbs and can be operated from a battery pack or a cigarette lighter adapter cable.
An internal calibration table and easy-to-use operator interface allows for analysis by non technical personnel.
Biodiesel has a characteristic infrared absorption band at 5.7 microns (1754/cm).
As the biodiesel percentage increases, the infrared absorbance increases.
An internal calibration table in the InfraCal Filtometer allows for a digital readout in % biodiesel.
