On-site percent measurement of Ethanol in Gasoline

A Wilks Enterprise product story
Edited by the Processingtalk editorial team Apr 9, 2008

Two portable, easy-to-use mid-IR analysers for use by producers, distributors, fleet managers, or regulators to measure the percent ethanol in gasoline and/or water in ethanol or methanol are launched

These are rugged, compact instruments for use by non-technical personnel and give a direct readout in percent ethanol or percent water in under a minute.

This provides the user with the capability to make measurements on-site at a manufacturing facility, distribution centre or service station and not wait for laboratory test results.

Each instrument weighs less than 5 lbs and can be operated from a battery pack or cigarette lighter adapter cable.

The first is the InfraCal Filtometer.

This is a low-cost analyser that is preset for a specified wavelength suited for one pre-selected measurement.

It is self-contained with an internal calibration programme and direct readout display.

An RS 232 interface is available for data transmission to a PC.

The InfraCal Filtometer is ideal where a single, repetitive analysis is needed.

The second instrument is the InfraSpec VFA-IR Spectrometer that covers the spectral region 5.4 to 10.8 microns, and is capable of monitoring more than one biofuel component.

It will measure the % ethanol in gasoline or water in ethanol or methanol, as well as the % biodiesel in diesel fuel, or total glycerides during the biodiesel reaction process.

The InfraSpec Spectrometer is operated from a PC, allowing for multiple calibrations, data storage and data transmission.

It can receive an input from a bar code scanner for sample identification.
