Speedy weighbridge installation keeps NEC moving
Speed was of the essence for the installation of a new 50 tonne weighbridge into an existing pit outside one of the main security gates at the National Exhibition Centre in Birmingham
Formed out of a merger of Great Lakes and Crompton, Chemtura is the world's largest plastics additives supplier, offering a comprehensive range of specialty additives and a wide choice of technologies for a myriad of applications.
Just a small example includes chemical solutions that ensure PVC pipe maintains its strength, sheathing on electrical wire remains flexible and building plastics are resistant to fire and fading.
The weighbridges are vital to the operation at Manchester and one of the key factors in the Chemtura decision process was the Weightron Bilanciai CPD digital load cell capability.

Weightron have developed their own range of digital load cells and these offer a number of advantages over analogue load cells, especially during installation and on-going maintenance.
The load cells can be used with a range of complementary instrumentation and services specifically designed to optimise the benefits of digital technology.
Minimum operational disruption during installation was also a key factor and the new low profile weighbridges have been fitted into the existing foundations with minimal structural alterations.
The Eurodeck units are fully tested before delivery, pre-wired and fitted with dummy load cells.
This ensures that installation can be carried out on site very quickly.
Weightron are also certified for the self verification of non-automatic weighing machines, further speeding up the process.
The weighbridges are integrated with the Weightron WinWeigh software package via Dialogic weight indicators.
WinWeigh is a dedicated, user-friendly Windows based weighing package, which gives unrivalled versatility and flexibility, opening up new dimensions in the management of weighing data.
Easy, powerful and understandable, this software tool turns a standard application into a custom made weighbridge program extremely quickly.
It can be easily integrated with existing business systems, offering weighing data capture and administration, together with system orientated statistics and reports.
At the heart of the application is a powerful database module.
There is a flexible import-export function for standard file formats and Winweigh can connect to external databases including Dbase, Paradox, MSExcel and Sybase.
WinWeigh provides fully configurable weighing screens, databases and processes, and no programming is needed for most bespoke modifications.
If software upgrades or changes are needed, these can be carried out remotely via a standard web browser.
As new national and European legislation is introduced, the requirements to maintain comprehensive company records increases significantly.
Frank Eames, security team leader at the Manchester site is responsible for the weighbridges and is very positive about the benefits of the new systems.
As he concludes: "The weighing procedures are now very efficient and the WinWeigh system is comprehensive yet easy to use.
This allows us to store and distribute critical information on all vehicle and product movements, both in and out of the site, in a secure, easy to access, electronic format.
This is especially important given the strict legislation on sending waste to landfill and we can generate exactly the reports we require.
Trying to do this using a paper work system is almost impossible.
The system also offers the future capability to link applications at other Chemtura sites to a centralised location, which may even be in another country".
The Eurodecks are covered by the Weightron Telemaintenance remote monitoring package.
This innovative concept gives their service personnel direct access to the weighbridges to diagnose problems and make critical adjustments without having to visit site.
Any problems with the weighing equipment are automatically flagged up at Weightron offices and details are immediately forwarded to the local engineer who can then dial into the weighing system remotely and make an assessment of the situation.
In many cases problems can be rectified remotely.
