Witt Gas mixers help ripen bananas
Gas mixers from Witt Gas Techniques, the Warrington based gas safety, control, mixing and analysis equipment supplier are able to help the controlled ripening of bananas.
To ensure that bananas, after they have been imported from their country of origin, reach the customer ready to eat, they are artificially ripened in maturing plants around the UK and Europe To ensure the bananas are ripened ready for the market, Witt gas mixers can be used to blend ethylene and air, which is pumped into the maturing chamber

Oxygen analyser takes mini samples
Witt Gas Techniques, the Warrington based gas safety, control, mixing and analysis equipment supplier, has launched Oxybaby V a hand held system for 02 analysis in the food packaging industry
The ethylene/air mixture is passed at high speed through the chamber, resulting in a constant temperature distribution and a uniform colouration.
Ethylene is a natural maturing hormone, which appears in all fruits.
It alters the starch of the flesh into sugar, thus the bananas ripen and their colour changes from green to yellow.
By mixing the ethylene and air in different concentrations, the ripening time and colour intensity can be easily controlled.
Carl Long, General Manager at Witt Gas Techniques said: "This is just one of many applications, including modified atmosphere packaging (MAP), in the food industry that our gas mixers are used in.
In this instance we are able to offer a number of gas mixers from our complete range, depending on the required gas volume".
