Wolf R-50 torch helps Scania staff survive floods

A Wolf Safety Lamp Company product story
Edited by the Processingtalk editorial team Jul 12, 2007

When the river Don broke its banks in June this year it caused extensive flooding in the Sheffield industrial centre: Scania staff were trapped overnight with no power or lighting

Hundreds of people throughout Sheffield were trapped at work by the recent floods, unable to get home and destined to spend an uncomfortable night without power.

Luckily for trapped employees at Scania GB, a truck service and repair centre on Don Road in Sheffield, help was near at hand.

According to Ken Pye, the Scania Workshop Controller, the power went off at 4pm, and subsequently, even the emergency lighting system failed.

Fortunately, staff found some torches on several South Yorkshire Fire and Rescue fire appliances that were at Scania for a pre-delivery inspection.

"The lightweight LED rechargeable torches from the Wolf Safety Lamp Company did a fantastic job for us" said Ken: "Each vehicle was equipped with two torches, enough for everyone who was trapped to have one, and they kept us going until morning".

The Wolf Safety R-50 rechargeable LED torch, actually made in Sheffield, is watertight; ATEX certified to Zone 1, IIC T4, with a brilliant white 80 lumen output, coupled with fully managed Li-Ion battery technology.

It has been particularly popular in the UK fire industry and is fast becoming the rechargeable torch of choice.

South Yorkshire Fire and Rescue has recently selected the R-50, recognising it as the very latest technology, for use in all new appliances.
