The system works by insertion of a probe into a live transmission main and is completely safe for all potable water systems.
In operation, the probe is carried along the pipe by the flow of water.
The system can locate leaks as small as 1l/hr in real time, via identification of the distinctive acoustic signals generated by leaks in the pipe wall, joints or steel welds.
Following detection of a leak the sensor head can accurately pinpoint the location using the PipeSpy2000 locator unit.
Depending on the pipe configuration, lengths up to 2,000' can be surveyed with a single insertion.
Inspections can be carried out in mains with a diameter of greater than 250mm; there is no limit on the maximum diameter.
The Pressure Pipe Inspection Company provides non-destructive condition assessment services for the evaluation of water transmission systems utilising a suite of unique and patented techniques to pinpoint damaged sections of pipe.
"PPIC was the obvious choice as a partner for WRc." comments Dene Marshallsay, Head of Demand Management for WRc plc.
"In our opinion, their background and commitment to the condition assessment of water transmission systems is unequalled".
Brian Mergelas, President and CEO of PPIC comments "Sahara significantly expands the PPIC delivery platform.
With this system we can now service a pipeline operator's entire transmission network - enabling them to cost-effectively manage their ageing infrastructure.".
