The railway shop on the platform was transformed into the "Prefect's Room" and the Ladies toilets became the "Wizard's Room" which did cause a little confusion at the time! Wizard days out run regularly through the year.
Watkins Hire supplied the equipment required for the project which included two 3000-lb/hr 150psi mobile packaged steam boiler plant, fueled by 35 sec oil, two 5000 litre bunded fuel tanks, and flexible steam pipes.
The steam boiler rental systems were selected from one of the Watkins Hire extensive fleet of 350 mobile boiler plants.
Once the equipment was delivered to site the North Yorkshire Moors Railway utilised a steam driven crane to offload the equipment onto bogeys to enable movement of the rental boiler, whilst on site.
The units were installed and commissioned, the steam was used to preheat the carriages for the passengers in the morning prior to the steam trains being connected, this made the process of getting the carriages and the trains ready quicker and more efficiently in the mornings.
