This year Wittmann UK has been notching up several double-digit orders for its Primus C mould temperature controllers for the plastics processing industries 'When our customers take to our temperature controllers, they really take to them!' says Barry Hill, Wittmann UK managing director 'The Wittmann Primus range is now an extremely price-competitive instrument throughout the sector and for all kinds of plastics processing'

Much growth in this year's order book has come from the South West region.
The Wittmann UK South West representative, Paul Dummer, says that 'As part of the process, in certain circumstances we can let the customer put the Primus C unit through its paces by letting them take a unit on trial.
We are confident that moulders will be hooked after using the unit.

Developed in the UK, and shown at the K 2004 exhibition in Dusseldorf last October, the Tempro Primus unit is ideal for applications where accurate temperature control is needed without a plethora of added features.
Units can be supplied with either mould purge or negative-pressure leak stoppage, based on user preferences.
The leak-free pump design doesn't need seal maintenance, thus reducing downtime and eliminating any cost of replacement seals.
All wetted surfaces are made of non-ferrous materials, thus eliminating rust and corrosion.
If the mould develops a leak, the unit reverses the flow of water via a vacuum in order to prevent waste from escaping.
The Wittmann Primus C is also compact, with a small footprint, measuring 10 by 28 by 26 inches and weighing 105lb.
Another Wittmann unit fast looking like a best seller is the Wittmann Tempro Plus XL temperature controller for larger moulds that require increased water volumes.
A specially designed submersible and regenerative turbine brass pump allows flow rates of 100, 200 or 300 l/min and maximum pressure of 6.5 bar.
Similar sales volumes to Primus C are now being sought for the new Tempro XL range in the UK.
Two low-watt density heaters each at 9, 12 or 18 kW respectively provide fast heat up of the mould to a maximum preset value of 90C (195F).
The temperature controller permits purging before tooling changes and the purging volume is not limited, as an additional pump allows the purged water to return either to the cooling water system or into the water drain.
The auto fill design offers both leakage monitoring and level control.
Similar to the other models in the Wittmann Tempro line, the heaters are controlled in two independent steps.
1) After the initial full power heat up phase the Tempro will automatically switch between full power or 1/3rd increments i.e if 9kwatt then 3 or 6 or 9kwatt.
It will do this as needed - in order to maintain an exact temperature but also save on power.
Cooling happens indirectly via two parallel ribbed tube heat exchangers, guaranteeing optimum use of the available cooling capacity.
Non-ferrous construction on all wetted surfaces is standard and eliminates problems associated with rust and wetted component degradation.
The user-friendly, self-optimizing microprocessor control is common to numerous other products from Wittmann.
The unit operates with PID control based on several different input parameters which allows for a very steep heat up curve and extremely short balancing out once the set-point is reached.
Various interfaces to molding machines as well as other features standard to the Wittmann temperature controller line are also built into the Tempro Plus XL model.
