The Wittmann Gravimax materials blender - introduced at last month's K 2007 - will soon be the blending and compounding equipment of choice for all plastics processors and compounders

This is the firm opinion from Wittmann UK Managing Director Barry Hill Explaining further: 'Not only is the Gravimax blender a much superior specification to the established competition, it is, by our reckoning some 20% cheaper then that competition'

The carefully designed Real Time Live Scale (RTSL) weighing features and the exclusive Wittmann pinch valve technology mean that the equipment can pay for itself in materials savings within a period of six months.

Hill adds that production of the Gravimax blenders is now being trialled by Wittmann in China - and that further improvements and cost savings will be available to the UK plastics industry next year.

'Make no mistake,' he adds, 'Wittmann is fully committed to serving this market now and for the long term.

For the cost-conscious shopper, the future is extremely bright'.

The well proven Gravimax blenders are ideal for single and multi-component gravimetric blending of up to 5,000 kg/h (11,000 lbs./hr.) for all injection moulding, blow moulding and extrusion processes.

The Wittmann blenders offer significant savings advantages in terms of colour and resin consumption because of the extremely accurate measurement.

A unique 3-stage metering method: free-flow, coarse pulsing and fine pulsing, progressively dispenses smaller and smaller quantities of material to reach the precise target batch weight without underdosing or overdosing.

The modular design allows for simple operation and easy access for cleaning.

The large product range offers many other features including: * touch screen microprocessor control * material saving RTLS measurement * Windows based data acquisition * remote internet accessibility * SmartRegrind for optimum regrind use.

The Real Time Live Scale (RTLS) technology precisely weighs each individual batch to consistently achieve the desired weight by maintaining the correct ratio of each individual material component in the mixing process according to the required weight.

This is substantially different to other systems common in the market that work with fixed times during a single dispensing process and, only during the following dispensing cycle, make a correction of the dispensing times for individual components.

Unfortunately, with fixed time methods the desired material proportions can only be achieved by statistical averaging over longer time periods.

This negatively affects the batch-to-batch accuracy, particularly in smaller material throughput applications.

In order to meet the demands of the RTLS technology, the Wittmann Gravimax blenders are equipped with fast, high quality microprocessor control for exact evaluation of the weigh cell data.

Various software algorithms filter out other influences or disturbances transmitted from the processing machines.

The touch screen control provides simple access to the various functions of the Gravimax blenders including equipment diagnostics.

A comprehensive data acquisition over OPC provides all values and results of the control to a downstream ERP system.

The Gravimax blenders are equipped with exclusive pinch valve technology for precise dispensing of the individual components.

The accurate measurement offers significant savings advantages in terms of colour and resin consumption.

The SmartRegrind function optimises regrind use by monitoring availability.

The Gravimax line of blenders range from the smallest model, the GMX 14R with 130 kg/h (285 lbs./hr) throughput and 4 components, up to the GMX 608 with 5,000 kg/h (11,000 lbs./hr.) material throughput and 8 components.

The comprehensive line can cover all the requirements of gravimetric blending in the market.
