WYG to rewrite mine-working manual

Consultants from WYG Engineering have been appointed to rewrite a 25-year-old mine-working manual.

The company will write the 'RP 940 Historic Mineworkings Manual' and update the 'CIRIA SP 32 Construction Over Abandoned Mine Workings' publication.

The proposed new publication will be an authoritative and comprehensive guide on the management, post-abandonment aftercare and development over, and in the vicinity of, abandoned mine-workings sites.

The guide will also cover site investigations, mining investigations, the consolidation of old mine workings, remedial measures and foundation design options.

Work on the guide is necessary to update and extend the existing guidance, providing further information on health-and-safety issues, the legislative framework, the planning regime and environmental considerations.

The publication was first published in 1984 and will take around 18 months to complete.
