The new WT1600S from Yokogawa is a digital power meter designed to provide cost-effective measurements of both extremely small currents in energy-saving equipment and high currents in applications involving large loads With prices starting from GBP6000 for a single-phase instrument, the WT1600S combines up to four power measurements with two input current ranges of 10 mA to 5 A RMS or 1 A to 20 A RMS, an input voltage range of 1.5 V to 1 kV and a frequency range of DC and 0.5 Hz to 300 kHz

The instrument has two separate input elements for low and high current ranges, both of which can be used together in a system.
A large 6.4-inch TFT colour display can display up to four power measurement parameters at once, with a choice of display formats including numeric, waveform, bargraph, vector, trend or combinations of these.
A harmonic measurement function is capable of measuring waveforms with a fundamental frequency ranging from 10 Hz to 1 kHz.
Analysis results up to the hundredth order can be displayed in numerical or bar-graph form, with harmonic measurements displayed as lists and fundamental waves as vectors.
A motor evaluation function allows the WT1600S to measure a motor's output from a speed and torque sensor on the output and then calculate parameters such as mechanical power, synchronous speed, slip, motor efficiency and total efficiency.
Analogue inputs for torque and pulse inputs for speed can be accepted, and waveforms can be displayed to provide a visual picture of fluctuations in parameter values.
A 10baseT Ethernet port for network or web connections is available as an option.
Standard interfaces include GP-IB or RS-232, and a VGA output for a large screen display.
A 'start/stop' function allows synchronised measurement with two linked instruments, while an external clock input enables accurate measurement of harmonics when using low-frequency signal inputs.
Waveforms, numerical values and screen displays can be saved to an internal floppy disk drive or an optional internal hard drive.
The instrument can also be used with Yokogawa's WTViewer 760122 software, which provides FTP client and server functions for data transfer and can also control up to four WT1600S instruments simultaneously.
